When Good Things Happen...

One of the most amazing things about life, if you live long enough, is the amount of people who are surprised when things go right.  Yes, it's true but all of us can attest to that rare occurrence at least once in our lifetime.

All joking aside, for the Christian there is this strange little saying, "...how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him."[Matthew 7:11].  It seems like a little innocent enough statement, but there is a little principle in it that stands out.  Somehow or another, God wants to do good for you.  Okay.  Awkward moment.  No it shouldn't be.  Can good things happening be an expectation in life?

That statement was innocuous in itself, but surprisingly life somehow dissipates or eradicates positivity in our thoughts from time to time.  You see life has this way of choking "the life" out of us if we are not careful or to full of care.  Cares and anxiety play a major role in stress, and panic.  When we get stressed out, we don't think clearly sometimes and thus we expect negative results.  That isn't always the case, but it can be the case.

What I would suggest is that we radically alter our daily mode of thought.  Each day expect that the day will bring the best to offer for us.  Maybe we meet someone new.  Maybe we get a better job offer.  Maybe we get to the water hole and back with no trouble.  Everyone is in a certain set of circumstances peculiar to themselves.  We don't know what another person is dealing with and most often, to be honest, we really are too busy with our own stuff to care adequately.  Can we be honest about that?

The thought life has this funny way of piercing every area of our life.  It would seem important to guard it.  "Above all else guard your heart for everything you do flows from it."  If we can turn our thought life into a positive then we have something.  That is why we started this with the surprise that good things do and will happen.

  • What if we put ourselves in the best position to have good things happen?
  • Would you be surprised if they did then?
I don't think you would be.  What I am trying to say is that if we place ourselves in optimum position, then maybe the results change, and possibly expectations.  Now, we know it doesn't always work out the way we want it to in life.  However, its about maximizing the opportunities for good things to happen in life.  I played football, and the best way for me to run the correct route was to learn the playbook, listen to the play, get in the right place in the formation, and move at the correct time the signal was heard.

Did you see the steps in that process?  If it works in a silly game with an oval leather ball, couldn't that work in everyday life?  I think so.  So, let's be our own coach.  Yes.  Coach yourself up daily to make better decisions.  Coach yourself up to believe that better is on the way.  Coach yourself up to believe that good things should happen, and when they do, I will be right here waiting for them.
