Constructing a better Person in Me

Okay so the words construct, construction, and constructive are generally well received or thought of from a positive sounding base.

If we were defining construct we could use:

  • build or erect (something, typically a building, road, or machine) v.
  • form (an idea or theory) by bringing together various conceptual elements, typically over a period of time. n.
Bear with me a wee bit more.  LATIN [con - together] LATIN [struere - pile, build] LATIN [construere] LATIN [construct - heaped together, built

So looking at construct alone most people think nothing of the term, and really subjectively think it is just a word.  Here is where we get complicated.

Do you ever hear the phrase "constructive criticism?"  Ah, we have all heard that term in one fashion or the other.  The Bible uses terms like "edifying," "built up," "built on," and so forth.  If we just look at the words again why do we get so guarded when the words on face value have such a positive meaning?  To construct something is an orderly task, and if done right will have immense value, and long-lasting results.

Here is the skinny if you will.  Criticism is another form of the use of critique.  If we "intend to build up or erect something and we critique it to make sure what we build or erect is sound" then that puts "constructive criticism" in another light, possibly?

Maybe we are all bunched up over something that might benefit us.  Is it possible that constructive criticism can be positive and positivity matters!  We know that we critique things naturally from what we eat, wear, say, do, think.  If we can do that without thinking most of the time, maybe can allow ourselves to be critiqued because ultimately a little construction might make us better people.

Sometimes a look under the hood of our hearts is very healthy, and checking the GPS on our life might be wise.  After all, if the journey is important then let's not get lost along the way.
