Broken Pottery is Still Usable
I was thinking earlier today about something. The thought was about broken pottery sitting in a corner that has been pushed aside because it just didn't fit or mix or something. I was wondering how many people may feel that life can do this to you?
I can tell you from firsthand witness that I have not always fit in. In fact, I would say that I never fit in. Now, I don't take it like I am just so different from everyone else, but if you don't fit you can "feel it." You know when you walk in the room and you feel like you don't belong or conversations are awkward. Well, I believe I have been awkward my whole life. It's okay to say so. It's actually quite liberating.
Being comfortable in your own skin is not as bad as one may think. I felt like I was the corner kid for the most part. People knew my name and all but I never had the attachment gene where people gravitate towards me or anything like that. So in some sense I can relate to people that feel alone in a crowded world. No big deal.
The point of my thoughts was how you can feel like a broken shard of clay in a corner like life isn't useful, and you can be used. Life could have dealt you a blow and it's hard when it does, but it's not over just yet. If I told you, as you watch the short video above, that when I came to North Carolina I had one pair of pants, one shirt, one pair of socks, one underwear, and one pair of sandals on and that was it? Would you look above at that video and think so?
Well, it's true. You see that's how most people see life. We see a result or image, but we never know the story behind it. We can't see the journey of the life, just the present and we many times base our view on that instant image. But, it isn't the whole story at all. If you researched how many people have had humble beginnings in life and went on to do incredible things it might surprise you. From inventors to navigators to business owners to writers to actors, the list is full of humble beginning and second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and how many chances are needed.
Do you know why the broken pieces are not thrown away in a pottery shop? They are absorbed into another piece or pieces. See, your brokenness can be the healing in another and vice versa. Maybe a few broken pieces can make a beautiful vase. We all have a part to play in life. If life is a play and we are all the actors, then I would say the play must go on. I think we get to where we are for reasons beyond us sometimes, and we don't know until we are there.

That's the point right there. Even an old piece of clay can be used. You can be tossed aside by the world, friends, family, church, school, and still be usable. I like to think I am capable of being used, and my life is a reflection of that. Let your love light shine because you are pretty amazing!
"Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it." (Jeremiah 18:3-4)
ReplyDeleteBroken, marred, disfigured; this is the shape we are all in apart from Jesus Christ. But he has promised if we come to Him in saving faith, he will make us into a brand new vessel fit for His use. Lord please make me fit for your use, as I have given my broken life to you to use as you see fit. I pray that I will more and more resemble you by and by.
Great prayer!
