A little Bit about My Journey
I am originally from Long Island, NY. If you have read my blog, and I hope you have, you know that I grew up in Hempstead. However, I am not a native New Yorker. It's true. I am actually from West palm Beach, Florida. I was born at St. Mary's Hospital. On the Orlando trip I was with my classmate Krystal, and we both found that we were born at the same hospital! It was a coming home trip for the both of us. Who knew. I think that years from now I will look back at this trip and realize it was a catalyst for the beginning of another phase in my life that would affect the rest of my life.
Anyway, I was brought to NY as a little boy, and that is where I was raised. So how did I get to NC?
I'm glad you asked. I came to NC in October of 2012. I didn't have much; just the belief that I wanted to make a new life for myself. When I first came, I had no bank account, no credit, no car, no job just like everyone else. My first car was a scam that blew the transmission within a couple weeks, and the buy-here pay-here salesman didn't want to fix it, but put the price on my car note. SMH! Yes, sir, nice start for the NY transplant. The first job I had was Pizza Hut delivery driver. I operate under the rule of common sense: Get any job until you can get the job you want and build towards that. It is not the sexy thing to do but that is how I do it.
Needless to say I ended up working 4 jobs at one time: Pizza Hut, K&W, CUTCO. Knives, and Advance Auto. I didn't care where or what, I just wanted to make a better life for myself, and I knew that I wasn't going to have it where I was. When you are willing, you find inspiration to do things you normally wouldn't do. After some time, I started working for Tyson Foods in Wilkesboro, NC. For those who don't understand there is some truth to the cultural, moral, and ideological differences between small town America and NY, trust me there is!
The pictures you see attached are part of the life I have been building and continue to build. I live in Winston Salem, NC now and work for a Fortune 500 Company, and I am a student as well. The reason I wrote this is more for me than you, the reader. Sometimes you have to reflect where you have travelled and realize when life happens, life isn't over just yet. There are some more pages to my story yet to be written, and even if life hands me a detour, speed bump, brick wall, hole in the street or whatever, I choose to keep moving. This isn't the end of the road!
