Life is about The Accents
Each one of us is born with a blank slate in life. Sorry to inform all the super smart, supper cool, super intelligent, and super whatever people that when you first came out, you were just another baby born on a certain date. I am being facetious. You were extremely unique and always will be so don't forget that!
However, while we are born with natural abilities and dispositions, we all go through life accessorizing. If any guy doesn't get that, just look around. It's winter in the southern US, and with winter comes a change of clothing. The coats, scarves, gloves, and interesting fashion choices appear with the change of seasons. Each person has their own style, even if it is copied from what cultural fashion or functionality says to wear. Nevertheless, we accessorize.
Spring boarding from that foundation, life too is the ultimate accessorizing experience. As we travel, we pick up speech patterns, thought patterns, and the like that accessorize our lives. The accessories that enhance us are extremely important in how our lives go.
Accessory number one for most people is family. Yeah, but you can't choose that one. True, but you can choose how you deal with all the stuff that comes with family. Family is never perfect. But, it is family. FYI I didn't always have great familial relationships, but that is life. What I do know is that how we see that bond matters, and how we go about it matters. Build great families, as much as you can because it will make you a better person.
Friends, is the second accessory we need to realize affects us in life. I understand today, what I didn't earlier in life. If you have never heard the song, "Dear Younger Me," by Mercy Me, please listen to it. I wish I could tell my younger self what a bonehead he was. I wish I could change some of my friend choices but I can't. I speak from experience, the circles that we build definitely influence our thinking, actions, and outcomes, as well as how we respond to things in life. Most people rely on their "circle." We can deny it, but it's true. Very few of us live the truly independent life, like me. LOL
The accessories that I really want to speak on are the things that matter. Our character. Accessorize yourself with good qualities. Philippians 4:8 tells us what to think or what things to think on. Nothing happens without the mind and the heart. Guard it! Choose what you think about. Take in the good things in life and treasure them. Surround yourself with people who enhance you. Put yourself in the best position you can. It doesn't guarantee anything but it does give you a better chance.
On my way to Florida I sat next to a woman who works in our government. Today she emailed me back, and I was just thinking what if I sat next to her for our flight and didn't speak? It's easy to do that. I make no claim to how that relationship develops, but it has the chance to develop! This is what life is or can be. It's the fusion of people, ideas, concepts, thoughts, inventions, and so much more. I am still an avid learner and really appreciate all that God gives me in life. The world is so vast and full, it would be foolish for me to think that I can't improve. I try to accessorize all the time. I want to learn. I want to continue becoming.
What do you want to accessorize yourself with? Perhaps a new language. Perhaps a new social group that is healthy. Perhaps reading a new book that will enhance your personal traits. Perhaps learning how to serve. Perhaps being a Christian. Perhaps a new job skill. As Paul the Apostle told his friends I wish that all people were like me, speaking of discipleship. Yet, even if not, I wish you all to accessorize your life to make you beautiful in mind, body, and spirit to those your encounter in this life. Put on your best self. The pictures are choices when decorating your house. What are the choices you make when decorating yourself? Life is about the Accents!
