My Time at the Texas State Fair
I had the opportunity to go to the
Texas State Fair. For those who I have read some of my writings, you will know that I am not a native Texan, but rather was born in West Palm Beach Florida. Thus, being here and seeing the variety of cultures in this area of Texas is still new to me. The fair is held at the same location as the Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas.
When I used to watch the Bowl game, I always though the stadiums were gigantic because of the camera angles. The crowds would seem so huge. Well, having walked by the stadium, I can see how the seating is arranged, and it really is more wide than tall. The same applies for the soccer stadium where the FC Dallas plays. That was another venue I had the opportunity to attend. Soccer game and Football games are two different elements too!
So back to the fair.
The one thing that stood out was the cultural flavor that Saturday. I didn't know what Texas was like, and really had no thought to what to expect coming to live here. I live here now, and that day, it seemed heavily influenced by Spanish culture. There was this band that played live, and the crowds were lively. The rides were full, and the open area to eat were different flavors from Tex-Mex, to Chinese.
The one thing I was told to do was to find this huge statute of Tex. It is huge, and many people go to that area to take picture. Every now and then the statute talks, which is pretty cool. There is a rodeo, and if you are looking for a new car, there are plenty of vendor on sight to give you all the options you need.
This was my first fair of any kind, and I was just walking around and taking it in. When I go back, I plan to experience it more.
